Find a Fishing Buddy in Minneapolis
Minnesota
Minneapolis lives up to the Land of 10,000 Lakes. There are dozens of quality fishing lakes inside the metro and hundreds within an hour, holding walleye, muskie, largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike, and a deep bench of panfish. Lake Minnetonka alone is a nationally regarded muskie and bass lake, the Mississippi River runs smallmouth right through downtown, and the legendary walleye water of Mille Lacs is 90 minutes north. Then there is the ice: Minnesota's hard-water season is a culture unto itself. MyFishingBuds connects Twin Cities anglers so you can share a boat on Minnetonka, chase walleye up north, or split an ice house in January.

When to fish Minneapolis
The Minnesota fishing opener in mid-May kicks off walleye and pike season and is practically a state holiday. Bass fishing is best from June through September, muskie season opens in June and peaks in the fall, and panfish (bluegill and crappie) are catchable spring through fall and again through the ice. Summer is prime on the metro lakes and the Mississippi. Fall is trophy-muskie time. And winter — December through March — turns the lakes into an ice-fishing destination for walleye, panfish, and pike, with everything from a bucket-and-auger setup to a heated wheelhouse.

Local tips for Minneapolis
Lake Minnetonka is the metro's headline lake — muskie, bass, walleye, and panfish across a huge, complex body of water where a buddy who knows the bays saves you a lot of searching. The Minneapolis Chain of Lakes (Bde Maka Ska, Harriet, Calhoun) offers shore and small-boat access right in the city. The Mississippi through downtown is an underrated smallmouth fishery. For walleye, most locals make the run to Mille Lacs or the lakes north of the metro — a shared trip splits the drive and the boat. In winter, an ice-fishing buddy with a wheelhouse turns a cold trip into a comfortable one.
