Find a Fishing Buddy in Jupiter
Florida
Jupiter packs a remarkable amount of fishing into a small footprint. The Jupiter Inlet is one of the best snook spots in the state, the Loxahatchee River behind it holds snook, juvenile tarpon, and jacks, and the Gulf Stream is a short run offshore for sailfish, mahi, kingfish, and blackfin tuna. The nearshore reefs and wrecks give up cobia, snapper, and mackerel. MyFishingBuds connects Jupiter-area anglers so you can split an offshore run to the blue water, share a day in the river and inlet, or find a partner who knows the local reefs.

When to fish Jupiter
Jupiter fishes all year. Snook stack at the inlet and in the Loxahatchee River spring through fall (harvest seasons apply). Sailfish peak December through March on the offshore cold-front bite; mahi run April through August; kingfish are best spring and fall. Tarpon move through the inlet and along the beaches April through July, and juvenile tarpon live in the river year-round. Cobia show on the spring migration over the nearshore reefs and following rays. Blackfin tuna are catchable on the offshore structure much of the year. Winter fronts turn on the sailfish and the pompano.

Local tips for Jupiter
Burt Reynolds Park and the DuBois Park area give access to the Jupiter Inlet and the Loxahatchee River — the inlet is a premier land-and-boat snook fishery, especially on the tides. The Gulf Stream is close, so sailfish and mahi are reachable from a capable center console, but it is still a real offshore run. For snook and tarpon without a boat, the inlet jetties and the river mouth are hard to beat. Pair up with a local for the reefs and wrecks — the nearshore structure holds cobia and snapper but takes numbers to find.

Is Jupiter Inlet good for snook fishing?▾
Yes — the Jupiter Inlet is regarded as one of the best snook fisheries in Florida. Snook stack in the inlet and the mouth of the Loxahatchee River on the moving tides, and they can be caught from the jetties as well as by boat. Check current Florida snook harvest seasons before keeping any.
How far offshore is the Gulf Stream from Jupiter?▾
The blue water edge is a relatively short run from the Jupiter Inlet — one of the closer approaches on the Florida coast — which is why sailfish, mahi, and kingfish are accessible even from modest boats. It is still offshore water, so go prepared and ideally with an experienced partner.
Can you catch tarpon in the Loxahatchee River?▾
Yes — the Loxahatchee holds juvenile (resident) tarpon year-round, and larger migratory tarpon move through the inlet and along the beaches April through July. The river is also a strong snook and jack fishery and a great place to fish from a kayak or small boat.
Do I need a license to fish in Jupiter?▾
Yes, a Florida saltwater fishing license for anglers 16 and older (residents $17/year; non-residents from $17 for 3 days). Licensed charters cover you onboard. See our Florida license guide for details.
