Find a Fishing Buddy in Venice
Florida
Venice sits where Roberts Bay and the north end of Lemon Bay meet the Gulf at the Venice Inlet, a compact but productive stretch of Southwest Florida coast. Snook, redfish, and spotted seatrout hold the bays and the mangrove shorelines, the beaches host a strong spring and summer tarpon run, and the nearshore Gulf is famous for sharks, Spanish mackerel, and grouper. Venice is also the 'Shark Tooth Capital of the World,' and the same nearshore structure that drops the teeth holds fish. MyFishingBuds connects Venice and south Sarasota County anglers so you can split a backcountry day, chase beach tarpon with a partner, or run the nearshore Gulf.

When to fish Venice
Year-round fishery. Tarpon run the beaches and stage at the Venice Inlet May through July. Fall (October-December) is the inshore peak — redfish school in the bays, trout fish well on the flats, and snook are active around the inlet and mangroves. Spanish mackerel and kingfish run spring and fall over the nearshore reefs; grouper and snapper fish the Gulf structure; and sharks are a reliable nearshore target spring through fall. Winter brings sheepshead and black drum to the bridges and docks, and pompano to the beaches.

Local tips for Venice
Higel Marine Park and the Venice ramps put you on Roberts Bay, the inlet, and the north end of Lemon Bay. The Venice Inlet (the Crow's Nest area and the jetties) is the classic snook and tarpon spot on the tides and fishes from shore as well as by boat. The Venice Fishing Pier produces snook, mackerel, pompano, and the occasional tarpon. For the beach tarpon run and the nearshore sharks, a buddy who runs the Gulf structure saves a lot of searching. Lemon Bay to the south is quieter backcountry for reds and snook.
