Find a Fishing Buddy in Boca Grande
Florida
Boca Grande, on Gasparilla Island at the mouth of Charlotte Harbor, is the Tarpon Capital of the World. Every May and June, thousands of tarpon stack in Boca Grande Pass to feed, and the fishery — the famous 'hill tide' and the fleet drifting live baits and jigs in the pass — is unlike anything else in the sport. Beyond the tarpon, Charlotte Harbor and Gasparilla Sound behind the island hold redfish, snook, and trout, and the Gulf offshore gives up grouper and snapper. MyFishingBuds connects Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor anglers so you can split a tarpon trip in the pass, fish the backcountry with a partner, or find a buddy for the Gulf.

When to fish Boca Grande
The year is built around tarpon. The Boca Grande Pass fishery peaks in May and June, when enormous schools stage in the pass to feed on the crab flush of the 'hill tides' — it is the single most famous tarpon fishery on earth, though the whole migration runs late April through July. Outside tarpon season, Charlotte Harbor and Gasparilla Sound fish well for redfish, snook, and trout, best in the cooler months (November through April) when the water is clear. Snook stack in the pass and around the island in the warm months. Grouper and snapper fish the nearshore Gulf spring through fall.

Local tips for Boca Grande
Boca Grande Pass is the main event — during the May/June peak the fleet drifts live crabs and bottom jigs through the deep pass on the tides. It is crowded, technical, big-fish fishing, and a buddy who has done it (or a guide your first time) is the fastest way to get tight and stay safe in the traffic. Outside the pass, the backcountry of Charlotte Harbor and Gasparilla Sound is some of the best redfish and snook water in Florida. The historic Boca Grande lighthouse beach and the old phosphate dock produce snook and tarpon from shore in season.
