Habitat

Deep, clear lakes with rocky structure. Prefer cool, well-oxygenated water. Found along deep rock edges, points, and humps. Rivers below dams in spring.

Best Season

Spring spawn (April-May) is the most active period. Fall is also excellent. Summer requires fishing deeper.

Best Times

Dawn, dusk, and after dark. Walleye have light-sensitive eyes and feed most actively in low light — overcast days are prime all day.

Start at dawn on a rock point where shallow water drops quickly to deep. Drag a white jig slowly along the bottom. Feel for a subtle thump and set the hook immediately — walleye have a light bite.
