About MyFishingBuds
MyFishingBuds helps anglers find a compatible fishing buddy, plan their trips, and get home safe. We’re a small, founder-run team that fishes, ships new features every week, and listens closely to the community we’re building.
Why we built it
Fishing is one of the most social things you can do — and one of the loneliest when you don’t have anyone to go with. New to an area, new to the sport, or your old crew drifted away: there was no good way to find someone compatible nearby. And fishing alone can be genuinely dangerous, yet the safety tools that could help were an afterthought everywhere we looked.
So we built the app we wanted: match by species, style, and schedule; plan the trip; and stay safe with float plans, live GPS, and one-tap SOS. Our whole reason for existing is summed up on the back of our logo: Never fish alone again.
Who’s behind it
MyFishingBuds is built and operated by The Buddy Systems LLC, founded in 2026 by Matt Sherman and Phil Chusid. We’re anglers first and a two-person team second — decisions and fixes happen in hours, not sprints, and real user feedback drives what we build week to week.

Our editorial & data standards
When we publish fishing-license prices, regulations, or safety guidance, we hold it to a higher bar — because people rely on it.
- Sourced from official agencies. License costs, rules, and exemptions come directly from each state’s fish & wildlife agency, and we link to the source on every page.
- Dated and verified. Each state license page shows when its prices were last verified. If we can’t confirm a number, we say so rather than guess.
- Reviewed before publishing. Learn-library guides go through a quality and accuracy review before they go live, and we update them as regulations change.
- Safety over everything. Our safety tools (float plans, GPS, SOS) are free for every angler, on every plan — we never put a paywall between you and getting home safe.
