One of the most versatile bass lures ever made — works in murky water, wind, and low light when other techniques fail.
Best For
Murky or stained water, windy days, cloudy skies, early morning and late evening, locating aggressive bass quickly
Select blade type based on conditions — Colorado blades thump more in murky water, willow blades flash more in clear water
Match skirt color to water clarity: white or chartreuse in murky water, natural shad or green pumpkin in clear water
Cast past your target — a dock piling, laydown, or weed edge — and let the lure fall briefly on a semi-slack line
Begin a steady medium retrieve keeping the bait just above cover — the blades should be spinning the entire time
Slow-roll the spinnerbait very slowly along the bottom in cold water (under 55°F) — almost dragging it
Try a burn and kill retrieve: reel fast, then stop dead and let it fall — bass often hit on the drop
When you feel a thump or the bait stops, reel down fast and sweep the rod to the side — spinnerbait hooks are big and sharp
🎣 Pro Tip
Helicopter a spinnerbait on the fall along steep riprap banks in fall. Count it down to different depths until you find where fish are suspending.
