🎣 Carolina Rig

A finesse rig that separates your bait from the weight, covering large flats and deep structure with a natural presentation.

Best For

Covering large bottom areas, post-spawn bass on flats, clear-water lakes where fish can smell the difference

How to Do It

  1. 1

Thread a 1/2 to 1 oz bullet sinker onto your main line, then add a glass or plastic bead behind it

💡 The bead protects your knot and makes a clicking sound that attracts bass

  2. 2

Tie a quality barrel swivel to your main line — the swivel is the key separation point

  3. 3

Attach a 12 to 36 inch fluorocarbon leader to the swivel — use longer leaders in clearer water

  4. 4

Tie on an offset worm hook (3/0 to 5/0) and rig your soft plastic weedless, just like a Texas rig

  5. 5

Cast to points, ledges, or long flats and let the rig sink to the bottom completely

  6. 6

Drag the weight slowly along the bottom using long sweeps of the rod — the bait floats and drifts behind it naturally

  7. 7

Watch your line and feel for soft taps — Carolina rig bites are often subtle. Reel down and make a firm sideways hook set.

🎣 Pro Tip

Go longer on the leader in clearer water (24-36 inch) and shorter in murky water (12 inch). The bait kicks up off the bottom as you drag, imitating a fleeing crawfish perfectly.
