🪢 Snell Knot

Attaching a hook directly to monofilament for live bait rigs — keeps the hook aligned with the line

Step-by-Step

  1. 1

Thread 8 inches of line through the hook eye from the point side

  2. 2

Form a loop alongside the hook shank pointing toward the bend

  3. 3

Wrap the tag end around the hook shank and through the loop 6-8 times, working toward the hook eye

  4. 4

Pull the tag end to slide the coils toward the eye, keeping them neat and tight

  5. 5

Wet and pull the main line until the coils lock against the eye

  6. 6

Trim the short tag end close

🎣 Pro Tip

Essential for circle hooks with live bait. The alignment dramatically improves hookup percentage on sets.
