When to fish Sanibel Island

Year-round fishery. The cool months (November through April) are the inshore peak — redfish school on the flats, snook hold in the passes and residential canals, and seatrout fish well on the grass. Tarpon arrive at the passes and roll along the Gulf beaches in late April and run through July, with the Boca Grande fishery just to the north part of the same run. Snook spawn in the passes in summer (harvest seasons apply). Sheepshead and pompano fish the causeway and passes in winter. Summer is hot and stormy; winter fronts settle the Sound and push fish into warmer water.
